Councillor Ruth Patterson makes 'vile and dangerous' comments about soccer club
CLAIMS that a popular north Belfast amateur football club had republican connections have been branded as "dangerous" and "vile".
Controversial independent unionist councillor Ruth Patterson made the claim about Crumlin Star Football Club at a Belfast City Council meeting last night.
Councillors were discussing the Ardoyne-based club's plans to relocate.
Crumlin Star, which does not have a home ground, wants to use playing fields at Strangford Avenue in south Belfast.
North Belfast MLA Nichola Mallon last night hit out at the claims.
She tweeted: "Vile and dangerous comments from Ruth Patterson tonight at Belfast City Council re Crumlin Star FC - a football club I've been proud to work with for years".
2/2 @CrumlinStarFC should seek urgent legal advice about these comments. Well done to cllrs of all parties who called this for what it is.— Nichola Mallon (@NicholaMallon) July 3, 2017
