Video: Police warn parents of 'death trap' at underage drinking and drug spot in Lurgan

POLICE have made a video warning parents about an underage drinking spot and "drug den" in Lurgan being used by children as young as 13.

"This isn't a playground, it's a death trap," police state in the video, adding "It's only a matter of time before someone is seriously injured or killed" at the site on Victoria Street in Lurgan.

The PSNI also warns that dissident republicans have been known to hide weapons on the site.

Police said some parents will be familiar with a gap in the hedge on Victoria Street and may even have dropped their children off there.

"Have you ever looked at the other side though?" the video asks.

There are also examples of young people who officers have helped in recent weeks, including a 14-year-old who was semi conscious and vomiting and 13 year olds who had brought blankets with the intention of spending the night.

The PSNI says young people from across Co Armagh are gathering and "The stories featured in this video are from just the past few weeks".

"If you know your child hangs around the old factory site on Victoria Street, then it's time to up your game. If there's even a possibility that they are, then watch this video and take stock. We're doing our best to keep young people safe - what are you doing?

"The site is private land, so we can't secure it. That puts the onus on everyone else to do their part."

"Stay safe, and help keep our kids safe."
