TWO men arrested in Dublin are to face extradition proceedings in relation to the attempted murder of two police officers in Co Derry.

The men, aged 29 and 32, were held yesterday over an attack on a married couple at their home in Eglinton, Co Derry, as well as suspected possession of explosives with intent to endanger life.

What was described "a sophisticated viable bomb" was left under a car belonging to the officers while it was parked in the driveway of their home in June 2015.

It fell from the vehicle and was taken away for forensic examination.

The attempted bombing was believed to have been carried out by the group calling itself the 'IRA'.

A cross-border police operation involving the PSNI and An Garda Siochana was launched.

The two men are expected to appear in court in Dublin on foot of a European arrest warrant.
