A 48-year-old man has been arrested for drug offences after a woman's sudden death

A 48-YEAR-OLD man has been arrested after a woman in her thirties died in south Armagh.

He was arrested yesterday on suspicion of possession of Class B drugs and being concerned in the supply of Class A drugs.

The woman was found dead at a house in Orior Park in Bessbrook on Tuesday but details of the death were only released yesterday.

A police spokeswoman said the death was not being treated as suspicious.

The man remained in custody last night.

Detective Sergeant Paul Murphy said: "A total of £2,000 cash was seized and a number of items were also taken away for examination during a related search".

Ulster Unionist Danny Kennedy said he was alarmed to learn of the death.

"The local community will be shocked and saddened by the death," he said.

"Orior Park is a very quiet housing estate. I will await further details from the PSNI."

Sinn Féin's Conor Murphy said the death was "tragic".

"Her family are in deep shock and they are in our thoughts at this moment as they come to terms with this sudden death," he said.

"Police are investigating the circumstances and anyone who feels they can help with the investigation should contact the PSNI immediately."
