POLICE investigating the murder of Joe Reilly in west Belfast are seeking information on a person riding a bicycle in the area at the time.

The 43-year-old, a son of former IRSP spokesman Kevin ‘Bap’ McQuillan, was gunned down at his home in the Glenwood Drive area of Poleglass at 8pm on Thursday October 20.

Two other people who were in the house were forced to lie on the kitchen floor during the attack, in which he was shot twice in the chest with a handgun.

Police have issued a specific request for information about a person on a bicycle they believe was in the area immediately after the shooting.

“I am appealing to anyone who knows anything about someone on a push bike or saw a person on a bike in the Bell Steel Road area immediately after the shooting," Detective Chief Inspector Peter Montgomery said.

"This bike may have been in the Glenwood area. I need to speak to anyone who saw the bike, who was on it or where it went. Our revisit to the scene last Thursday night was productive but we need more assistance from the community if we are going to take the gun which killed Joe off the streets and put his killers in front of a court," he added.

Police staged a reconstruction of the murder scene last week, where officers wearing similar clothing to the gunmen retraced their getaway route in the hope that further witnesses would come forward.

Detectives say two gunmen left the victim’s house and ran along Glenwood Drive into Laurelbank, heading towards the Bell Steel Road.

They believe both were wearing half-zip hooded sports tops and skin-tight jogging bottoms. Polce have sais both had their faces covered and at least one had a Celtic scarf up over his face and was wearing dark rimmed glasses.
