A LITHUANIAN man facing a rape charge has appeared in court after being extradited to Northern Ireland.

Stasys Baranauskas appeared in the dock of Craigavon Magistrates Court on foot of a European arrest warrant.

The 29-year-old, of no fixed address, faces a total of nine charges including rape, sexual assault, grievous bodily harm and false imprisonment.

No bail application was lodged so Baranauskas, who did not speak during the short hearing, was remanded to custody to appear again via videolink next week.
