A CO Armagh football club has paid tribute to one of its founding members following his death in a road crash.

Jim Wilson (67) from Portadown died after a crash in Richhill on Friday.

The one-vehicle collision happened at the Stonebridge roundabout on the Portadown Road shortly before 4pm.

It is understood the tragedy came a week after the family celebrated the wedding of one of Mr Wilson's son's. It is believed he was still on honeymoon when the news of the crash emerged.

Tributes have been paid to the father-of-five, who helped set up Richhill Football Club with Jackie McCoo.

Mr Wilson, who was also a former manager of the club, was last night described as a "absolute gentleman".

In a statement on Monday, the club said: "On behalf of Richhill AFC we would like to pass on our sincere condolences to former Broomhill FC players Simon, Mark, Matthew, Aaron and the entire Wilson family on the passing of former Richhill FC manager Jim".

Mr McCoo also wrote: "Thoughts are with the Wilson family, Jim and me worked very well together forming present day RFC and those days we always had good craic saddenly missed".

Another tribute described him as a "great man".
