HUNDREDS of mourners have paid their final respects to the second Northern Ireland fan who died while attending the European Championships in France.

North Belfast man Robert 'Archie' Rainey (64) collapsed in the stands in Lyon from a suspected heart attack while watching Northern Ireland's group match with Ukraine on June 16.

Mourners first gathered at his home at Benview Park on Tuesday for a short service led by a family member.

Flags and memorials were placed outside the house, while a floral tribute representing the Northern Ireland football crest rested on the coffin.

Following the service a celebration of his life was held at Roselawn Crematorium.

At Northern Ireland's final group game with Germany fans chanted 'Archie, Archie, Archie' in the 64th minute in tribute, while the players wore black armbands.

The Rainey family said the grandfather-of-four died "doing what he loved best".

Meanwhile, it has emerged a second Northern Ireland fan is being treated in hospital in France.

Kevin Storey, from Bangor, had been following the team at the tournament but according to his family "took very poorly" a week ago and remains in a Paris recovering.

The news sparked an outpouring of support from fellow members of the Green and White Army on social media.

Mr Storey is the second Northern Ireland fan who has been forced to stay behind in France on medical grounds.

Ben Crossley from Belfast remains in hospital in Lyon after a serious accident on June 17.

The former Lagan College pupil fell from a three-storey building, suffering serious injuries including a broken knee cap, jaw, cheeks and teeth.

He hopes to return home to Belfast this week.
