AN award-winning singer and pianist are to perform this week in memory of a Belfast-based composer who died of cancer.

Peter Rosser (44), who was born in London, passed away in November 2014.

He was the acclaimed composer of several challenging contemporary works including String Quartet No 2, written for New York’s JACK quartet to premiere in the first classical concert at Belfast’s Metropolitan Arts Centre.

Internationally renowned soprano Aoife Miskelly and pianist Will Vann will perform a selection of traditional and contemporary music at Rosemary Street Presbyterian Church in Belfast at 8pm on Tuesday.

Mr Rosser's partner Anne McCambridge said the venue is particularly poignant.

"Rosemary Street church was the last place that Peter ever saw a concert," she said.

"One of his friends took him from the Cancer Centre (at Belfast City Hospital). Aoife was singing that night and it affected him very deeply. It's really special to have the concert at Rosemary Street."

The concert will raise funds for the Peter Rosser Foundation which aims to promote new music from Northern Ireland.

Miskelly sings with the Opera House Cologne and will sing across the world this year, including playing the lead in a new production of Britten's A Midsummer Night's Dream in Japan.

Vann studied as a pianist at the Royal Academy of Music and has won several prizes for his piano accompaniment. He is the founder and artistic director of the London English Song Festival.

The pair were finalists in the 2015 Wigmore Song Competition.

Tickets, priced £10 (£5 concession), are available at the door.
