Two arrests after man shot in leg in west Belfast

TWO men have been arrested after a 41-year-old man was shot in the leg in west Belfast.

The victim was shot in Glasvey Drive in Twinbrook shortly before midnight. Police said he remains in a serious condition in hospital. 

Armed police raided a house on nearby Aspen Walk in the early hours of this morning and arrested two men, aged 25 and 35, on suspicion of attempted murder.

Police said a motive had yet to be established for the shooting.

Sinn Féin West Belfast assembly member Jennifer McCann has called for calm and said "tensions were running high" in the area.

She said local people had been “shocked and angered” at the shooitng.

“I totally condemn the shooting of a man last night in the Twinbrook area,” she said.

The assembly member called on people "to remain calm".

“There needs to be a full and thorough investigation by the PSNI into the circumstances of last night’s shooting and those responsible must be brought to justice”.
