THE funeral of a homeless man who died in Belfast city centre will take place tomorrow.

William Coulter, known as Jimmy, was found in the early hours of Sunday in the Donegall Place area.

He died despite efforts to revive him, and the cause of his death has not been made public.

Aged in his mid-thirties, Mr Coulter was originally from Ligoniel in north Belfast.

A regular rough sleeper, he was known to volunteers at Hope Outreach for the Homeless which described him as "loveable" and a "bit of a rogue".

The group last night put a statement up on its Facebook page saying they had met with his father at the spot where he passed away.

"We talked about our friend and know by talking to his brothers and father, Jimmy had a loving and caring family but he chose to sleep rough."

Mr Coulter is survived by his father Jimmy, siblings Thomas, Roisin and Barry and wider family circle.

Requiem Mass will be celebrated at St Paul's Church in west Belfast at 10am tomorrow, followed by burial in Belmont Cemetery.
