LAST month was the warmest November for the past four years.

According to the Armagh Observatory, the month's average monthly temperature was 8.7 degrees Celsius and the warmest day of the month was November 1 when it was 17.2 degrees Celsius.

During the month, there was a total of eight ground frosts, the coldest of which occurred on November 23 when it was -7.1 degrees Celsius. On the same night there was a night-time air frost of -1.1 C.

The month was also wetter than average as there was a total of 121.1 mm of rainfall.

This was 65 per cent more than the long-term average November precipitation and approximately 62 per cent more than the most recent 30-year average precipitation.

However, although wetter than average, November 2015 was not as wet as the previous year when 149.2mm fell.

The wettest day of the month was November 14 when there was 19.7mm of rainfall.

There were 44.4 hours of strong sunshine recorded during the month, the sunniest day was November 1 when there was 7.9 hours of sunshine. Although for 11 days during the month no strong sunshine was recorded at all.

Taking the autumn months of September, October and November together,autumn 2015 was drier and warmer than average.

It was also the driest autumn for eight years.
