An 85-year-old brother of Patricia Aust has been remanded into custody accused of her murder.

Standing in the dock of Newtownards Magistrates Court on Tuesday, Jim Moore confirmed he understood the single charge against him.

Moore, from Clandeboye Place in Bangor, faces a single charge alleging that he murdered Ms Aust on June 2.

The body of 81-year-old ‘Patsy’ Aust, a retired teacher, was found at a house in Hawthorne Court on Sunday after police received a report of a death of a woman at about 5.30 pm. When they arrived, officers found her body in the living room.

Giving evidence to the court Det. Insp. Campbell said he was aware of the facts and circumstances of the offence and he believed he could connect Moore to the charge.

Defence solicitor Dermot Bowes confirmed he was not applying for bail on behalf of Moore at this stage so the prosecuting lawyer asked for the case to be adjourned to the videolink list.

Remanding Moore into custody, District Judge Francis Rafferty put the case back to June 26.
