Another person has died after contracting coronavirus in the north, the Department of Health has confirmed.

It is the second consecutive day a Covid-19-related death has been recorded after four deaths with no fatalities.

In it's daily update of Covid-19 statistics, the department confirmed that the death happened in the 24 hours up until 10am today.

The number of people who have died since the pandemic hit the north now stands at 539.

There were 16 new cases of coronavirus detected after 886 individuals were tested.

The total number of individuals who have tested positive in the north is 4,838.

Earlier today, the Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency (Nisra) said it had recorded a total of 779 people dying after contracting the virus in the north.

In the week up to June 5, 20 deaths were recorded by Nisra, compared with 49 and 53 in the previous two weeks respectively.

The body records all deaths where Covid-19 is mentioned on a death certificate.
