THE Alliance Party has received £60,000 in donations in recent weeks, according to the Electoral Commission's first pre-poll report.

The election watchdog plans to publish regular updates on political donations in the run-up to the December 12 Westminster election.

The data reveals that UK-wide, the Conservatives received £5.6m while Labour took in only £218,000. The Liberal Democrats received £275,000, the Green Party £30,000 and the Brexit Party £250,000.

The donations to Alliance were for £50,000 and £10,000 and came from regular donors the Joseph Rowntree Trust and Gilbert Nesbitt, respectively.

No other Northern Ireland parties were listed, although donations under £7,500 do not have to be declared.

This is the first general election since legislation was introduced to allow information on donations and loans in Northern Ireland to be published.
