Malone College in Belfast has closed for two days after a positive case of coronavirus in the school community.

The south Belfast school said close contacts of the person diagnosed with Covid-19 have been contacted by a member of staff.

School principal Katrina Moore said the school would be closed today and tomorrow but would reopen on Friday September 25 for all students, except those who had been contacted and asked to self-isolate.

"As result of our stringent protocol in place for tracking and tracing, we have been able to minimise the impact on staff and pupils. The school closure was a precautionary measure to allow me to continue protecting the entire school community at all times and I make no apologies for doing this.

"This is my main priority each and every day and will continue to be so for the foreseeable future."
