BUILDING work has begun on two multi-million pound further education college campuses.

The first sod has been cut on the site of the new £29 million Erne Campus of South West College.

It will be situated on the site of the former Erne hospital in Enniskillen, and represents a significant investment by the Department for the Economy.

It will be the first educational building worldwide to achieve the highest international standard in environmental construction.

The building, which is due to be completed in early 2020 will further enhance the college's existing global reputation in the sustainable construction sector and will be used to attract international companies and students in this field.

Meanwhile, work has started on the landmark £35m Southern Regional College Armagh campus.

It is part of a £95m investment by SRC and the Department for the Economy to create three new campuses across the Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon area.

It is due to be open in "just over two years’ time".

Located on the existing Lonsdale Road site, the new campus will specialise in the provision of innovation hubs through which students will engage with business and industry in real world industrial projects and challenges.
