Northern Ireland is set for heavy rain and strong winds on Friday night into Saturday morning, with a yellow weather warning in place.

The Met Office has issued the warning from midnight Friday until noon on Saturday due to forecasts of up to 60mm of rainfall in parts of County Down and Belfast. Gusts up to 80km/h are also expected along the east coast.

This rainy weather comes after Northern Ireland just had its wettest July on record going back to 1836, with over double the normal rainfall.

The bad weather this summer has already negatively impacted tourism and hospitality businesses that rely on July being a busy season.

In an interview with the BBC, Sean McLaughlin, who owns a fish and chip restaurant in Portrush, said "We were expecting a bumper summer with decent weather and more people coming around, but sadly we've hit the wettest July we've ever seen."

He added that carparks and caravan sites have been relatively empty when they are normally full this time of year.
