A SECURITY alert is ongoing in Newry following the discovery of a suspicious object.The object was found in the Barcroft Park area of the town on Wednesday and the area has been cordoned off by police as investigations continue.A PSNI spokesperson said: "Motorists and pedestrians are advised cordons are currently in place and are asked to avoid the area at present. "A further update will be provided in due course."Independent Newry councillor Gavin Malone said: "I would urge people to avoid the area around Barcroft Road until otherwise by police."This is a worrying development for locals in the area and I hope this can be resolved as soon as possible."
