FIREFIGHTERS have been tasked to a major blaze in the Larne area.

The fire was reported to have occurred at a builders' merchants store in the Circular Road area of the Co Antrim town on Tuesday evening.

Six fire appliances were called to the scene, with 46 firefighters from Larne, Whitehead, Carrickfergus and Ballyclare tackling the flames with the aid of an aerial appliance and breathing apparatus.

A support unit from Kilrea was also called to the blaze.

The service received a report of the fire shortly before 8pm.

A spokesperson for the NI Fire and Rescue Service said on Tuesday night that the incident remained ongoing, while the cause of the fire was "still to be determined".
