THE cast of hit comedy show Derry Girls have traded in their school uniforms for Christmas jumpers in support of Save the Children.

The stars of the Channel 4 programme, Erin, Orla, Clare, Michelle and James, are backing the charity's annual 'Christmas Jumper Day' campaign by donning their favourite festive knits.

Taking place on December 14, schools, workplaces, sports teams, nurseries, universities and households in their thousands have already signed up across Northern Ireland.

Jamie-Lee O’Donnell, who plays Michelle in the award-winning series said, it was a great way to raise funds for charity.

"We are delighted to get involved in this year’s campaign and pull on our Christmas jumpers for a good cause," she said.

"It’s so easy to get swept up in the Christmas party season and this fundraiser is a great way to enjoy the parties and at the same time raise money for a local charity."

Save the Children said it expects more than five million people to take part in its Christmas Jumper Day across the UK.
