AN ACTOR and drag queen has appealed for the return of his distinctive 'orange wig' after it was stolen outside a Belfast bar at the weekend.

Matthew Cavan's unique wig, which cost him more than £300 in an online purchase from Holland last year, was swiped from a table outside the Errigle Inn on the Ormeau Road in south Belfast in the early hours of Sunday.

Earlier he had worn the wig during the performance of 'Abomination - The DUP in Concert' - based on the word used by former DUP MP Iris Robinson to describe homosexuality in a 2008 Nolan Show interview - at the Lyric Theatre.

"We finished up at the Lyric about midnight, and headed over to the Errigle. Everything was great," said Cavan who also uses the name Cherrie On Top and runs the artists' collective Belfast Ensemble.

"At closing time we were at the tables outside, I went into the bar for two minutes to pick up some bags I had left inside, and when I came back it was gone."

The actor and artiste took to social media yesterday to make an impassioned plea for the return of the wig but as of last night had not heard of its whereabouts.

"I work hard, costumes are not cheap and as a self-employed actor and drag queen we have to fund everything, and for someone just to lift it is a bit of a kick in the teeth.

"Wherever it is, whoever has it, just get in touch and hand it back," he said.
