A MAN was taken to hospital yesterday after suffering a fall from a multi-seat 'party bike' in Belfast city centre.

Police and ambulance crews were called to the scene at Amelia Street following reports shortly after 6pm that a man had fallen from one of the pedal-powered vehicles.

The man, thought to be aged in his 20s, was taken to the Royal Victoria Hospital for treatment.

The Belfast health trust was last night unable to provide an update on his condition.

The 'party bike' vehicles, which seat multiple people, and have become a familiar sight in central Belfast.

They allow groups of revellers to pedal along city centre streets while music is played and usually permit customers to bring alcohol aboard.

A spokesman for the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service (NIAS) said crews received a call around 6.20pm about a "male having fallen off a bike".

A rapid response paramedic and A&E crew attended and the man was taken to hospital.

The PSNI said it "received a a report that a man had been involved in a fall from a moving vehicle in Belfast city centre around 6.15pm".

It said that "NIAS attended and the man was taken to hospital for treatment", adding that "his condition is not known at this time".
