A WOMAN is to stand trial charged in connection with a road crash in north Belfast which left a pedestrian seriously injured, a judge ordered today.

Lyndsay Michelle Strain (29) is accusing of being behind the wheel of a car which struck the man on the Ballysillan Road earlier this year.

She appeared before Belfast Magistrates' Court charged with causing grievous bodily injury by dangerous driving.

Strain, of Meyrick Park in the city, allegedly committed the offence on April 22.

At the time police said a pedestrian aged in his forties was taken to hospital with severe head and facial injuries.

A number of vehicles were also damaged.

During a preliminary enquiry hearing Strain spoke only to confirm she understood the allegations against her.

She declined to give evidence or call witnesses at this stage.

Her solicitor, Ciaran Toner, did not contest prosecution submissions that she has a case to answer.

On that basis District Judge Fiona Bagnall granted an application to have Strain returned for Crown Court trial on a date to be fixed.

A Crown lawyer indicated a second charge of driving when unfit through drink or drugs is expected to be added when those proceedings get underway.

Mrs Bagnall agreed to release Strain on continuing bail of £500.
