POLICE are appealing for information following an arson attack at a property in the Ardoyne area of north Belfast on Monday night.

According to residents there were disturbances in the Cranbrook Gardens area that lasted more than four hours before the attack on the house.

The Housing Executive and PSNI are thought to have previously been informed of anti-social behaviour in the area that has been ongoing for several months.

Police attended the scene at 11.45pm after receiving reports of a fire at a property in the street.

A man and woman were taken from the area by the PSNI for their own safety.

Police are appealing for information.

Detective Sergeant McPhillips said: "Shortly after 11.45pm police received the report of a fire at a property in the area and attended along with NI Fire and Rescue Service.

"It is believed that entry was gained to the property and an ignition started inside the kitchen.

"There was no one inside the property at the time."
