DUP MP Emma Little-Pengelly has returned to Twitter after appearing to have abandoned the platform following an online row.

She posted a tweet on June 11, saying "I'm done with this nonsense".

It followed an online argument with north Belfast Sinn Féin councillor JJ Magee.

Following further heated exchanges with various Twitter users about her interactions with councillor Magee, which led Ms Little-Pengelly to tweet: "This is actually peak Twitter. It is pathetic. I'm done with this nonsense. Silly beyond comprehension. I'm done with Twitter."

Last night, however, Ms Little-Pengelly posted that her absence had merely been "a lovely 4 week break".

The DUP MP has represented South Belfast for a year, winning the seat from the SDLP last June, and previously spent 18 months as an MLA.

She has been an active user of the social media platform, posting or interacting with others on an almost daily basis.

She had engaged with a diverse range of Twitter users - regardless of whether they were supportive or critical - often becoming embroiled in online debates and on occasions threatening legal action against some.

Over the last month, Ms Little-Pengelly has continued to post regularly on Facebook.

The DUP did not respond to a request for a comment.
