A 40-YEAR-OLD man has died after being shot in Dublin by gardaí searching for a missing 24-year-old woman.

IT student Jastine Valdez has not been seen since she left her home in Enniskerry, Co Wicklow, on Saturday afternoon. Gardaí launched an investigation following a report that a woman had been forced into a car on a road out of the village.

Yesterday they appealed for information about a dark-coloured Nissan SUV seen in the area.

At around 8pm on Sunday gardaí said officers investigating the disappearance of the young woman “interacted with the driver of a vehicle” in the Cherrywood area of south Dublin.

In a statement, they said an “official Garda firearm was discharged”, and that the incident had been “referred to GSOC [Garda Síochána Ombudsman Commission] as per protocol”.

The statement said gardaí had also “located a 171 D Nissan Qashqai they had earlier appealed for at the scene of the shooting”.

It was reported that the man, believed to be a father-of-two from the Wicklow area, may have been armed with a knife.

A Garda helicopter, Garda cars and support units, as well as ambulances, were last night at the scene of the shooting at Cherrywood business park.

The man’s death was reported at around 10.15pm.

Ms Valdez is 5ft tall, of slight build with long black hair and brown eyes. When last seen she was wearing a dark-coloured jacket, a white T-shirt, grey leggings and trainers.
