THE funeral of a Co Down man killed in a road crash in London is due to be held in his home village on Sunday.

Christopher Mackin, from Rostrevor, is believed to have been crossing the road when he was struck last Friday night.

Family and friends of the young man, who was described as "one of life's gentlemen", are expected to come together for his funeral in Rostrevor.

Funeral mass for Mr Mackin, who was in his twenties, is due to be held at St Mary's Star of the Sea Church at 1pm followed by interment in Kilbroney Cemetery.

Mr Mackin worked for Newry-based company First Derivatives and was a former player with St Bronagh's GAA in Rostrevor.

Tributes have poured in for the talented GAA player, who was also a former head boy at St Mark’s High School in Warrenpoint.

A spokesperson for school said: "We are incredibly saddened by the passing of our past head boy Christopher Mackin.

"Christopher was a gentleman and an ideal student.

"He was an incredible ambassador for St Mark's and a student we have always been very proud of.

"The governors, staff, students and entire St Mark’s community offer our sincere condolences to the Mackin family, St Bronagh’s GAA and Christopher’s friends."

First Derivatives also described Mr Mackin as a "dear friend and colleague", while a spokesman for his former GAA club said he was a man with a " his charismatic and friendly persona".
