A PEDESTRIAN killed in a road accident near Dunfanaghy in Co Donegal was visiting the area from Scotland, it has been revealed.

A Garda spokesman said the man, who was in his late 20s, was walking along the road at Sandhill when he was struck by a car at around 4.15am yesterday morning. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A male driver of the vehicle and two women in the car were uninjured in the accident.

Gardaí said the victim’s name was being withheld until relatives in Scotland had been informed. The victim was understood to be visiting family in the nearby Falcarragh area over the Christmas break.

The road remained closed throughout yesterday while Garda officers completed an examination of the scene.
