A 40-YEAR-OLD Co Tyrone man wanted about the murder of prison officer David Black is to be extradited from the Republic.

Damien Joseph McLaughlin, from Dungannon but with an address at Glenties Road in west Belfast, was arrested in Co Donegal on foot of a European Arrest Warrant in March after going missing from his Belfast bail address last November.

He is wanted over claims he aided and abetted the murder of Mr Black on November 1, 2012, and had an article suspected of being for the commission of murder.

Mr Black, a 52-year-old father-of-two, was shot dead on the M1 motorway by dissident republicans as he drove to work in Maghaberry jail in Co Antrim.

Mr McLaughlin is also charged with engaging in conduct in preparation for acts of terrorism and of being a member of a proscribed organisation.

His barrister opposed the extradition, claiming Mr McLaughlin would be subjected to full body searches in Maghaberry Prison.

However, Ms Justice Aileen Donnelly said the Northern Ireland Prison Service demonstrated that full body searches were needed on entering and exiting Maghaberry prison.

She ordered Mr McLaughlin's extradition.
