STAR golfer Rory McIlroy's childhood home in Co Down is up for sale.

Complete with a putting green which was installed for the sportsman, the four-bedroom semi-detached property in Holywood is on the market for around £240,000.

The house, which was sold by the McIlroy family several years ago, is being sold through John Minnis Estate Agents.

On the website the estate agent describes the property as a "beautifully presented red brick semi-detached with excellent standard of decor throughout" and "former family home of world class golfer Rory McIlroy."

The property, on the Belfast Road, has several distinctive features giving clues to its famous former owner, including a room which has been set aside as a dedicated "swing studio" for committed golfers.

The putting green, installed for McIlroy by his father Gerry, has been well-maintained and is also floodlit.

McIlroy, who is based in Florida in the US, spent years in the house perfecting his game while he was growing up.

He later moved to a luxury five-bedroom home near Moneyreagh, Co Down, but this was also sold several years ago.

The golfer married his American girlfriend Erica Stoll at 13th century Ashford Castle in Co Mayo in April.
