Man and woman injured after separate Co Tyrone assaults in Omagh and Coalisland

A MAN suffered injuries to his head and face after being subjected to what police described as an "unprovoked attack" by a group of men in Omagh.

The victim and a female companion, who are both in their 30s, were making their way home along Georges Street in the Co Tyrone town at 2.30am on Sunday when the man was set upon by "a group of unknown males".

A police spokesman said the man "received injuries to his face and head as a result of this" and appealed for anyone with information to contact them.

Detectives in Co Tyrone meanwhile have charged three men, aged 17, 18 and 48, with aggravated burglary and inflicting grievous bodily harm, criminal damage, possessing offensive weapon in public place and threats to kill, over a disturbance in Birneys Square in Coalisland on Saturday evening.

They were expected to appear before Dungannon Magistrates Court yesterday morning.

A woman in her 40s, suffered an injury to her head after being struck with a golf club when a number of people were reported to have forced their way into a house.

Detectives said they "continue to appeal to anyone who witnessed the incident or anyone with any information that can assist with the investigation" to contact them in Cookstown or anonymously via the Crimestoppers.
