VANDALS have ripped up parts of a children's playpark in the latest incident of anti-social behaviour at the Falls Park in west Belfast.

Police said that crowds of youths - estimated at around 200 on Saturday night - gathered throughout the weekend at the park and City Cemetery.

The rubber floor of the children's playpark in the Falls Park was vandalised and "used as missiles" to attack police.

In a Facebook post, the PSNI said: "There were also several large stones and bottles thrown.

"This behaviour didn't just put us at risk, but several times the missiles just missed other kids.

"Damaging a kids play park which is used by the whole community just isn't on."

Two teenagers were arrested for public order and alcohol offences, while another youth was arrested and brought home to their parents.

In April, police were forced to close the Falls Park early after a crowd of up to 150 youths gathered, with reports of pedestrians and cars on the Falls and Whiterock Roads being pelted with stones.

Residents living nearby have spoken of being afraid to go into the park for a walk and being threatened and verbally abused because they refused to buy alcohol for youths congregating in the area.
