THE joint funeral of an elderly couple found stabbed to death in their Co Armagh home is due to take place today.

Michael and Marjorie Cawdery will be laid to rest almost two weeks after they were killed in Portadown.

The pensioners - both aged 83 - were found dead at their Upper Ramone Park home on May 26 by their daughter and son-in-law.

Family and friends will gather in Portadown for their funeral service at Drumcree Parish Church at 2pm followed by a private burial.

Following their tragic deaths, the couple were described as "wonderful people" who "enriched the lives of all they met".

In the wake of the tragedy, the family of Mr and Mrs Cawdery described the double killing as "awful and incomprehensible" and said they had been deprived of a "father, mother, brother, sister and grandparents".

A 40-year-old has appeared in court charged with their murder.

Thomas Scott McEntee of Moorfield Court, Kilkeel, was denied bail and will appear in court again later this month.

In a statement issued following the court hearing, the family said: "We would like to express once again our sincere thanks to all who have sent flowers, condolences, messages of sympathy, and helped in many practical ways.

"We are very relieved that a suspect has been charged and we hope that justice for Michael and Marjorie will prevail."
