'FROSTBIT Boy' Ruairí McSorley is hoping to get Belfast jiving next week when he opens the city's first country music venue at Crumlin Road Gaol.

The teenager, from Park in Co Derry, will launch 'Mr Frosty’s Country Club' at the north Belfast venue on Thursday May 11.

The opening night will be headlined by the country music star Robert Mizzell, best known for his song 'Say you love me'.

A former pupil at Lumen Christi College in Derry, the teenager became an internet hit in 2015 when he told a UTV reporter "you wouldn't be long getting frostbit" when interviewed about the weather.

The clip was viewed millions of times on YouTube.

After producing a charity single of his own, the Galway-based student is now taking up the challenge to get Belfast moving with the Twitter hashtag #GetBelfastJiving.

A keen jiver, he has even credited his own weight loss to the dance, writing on Facebook last year: "...there no denying ye be a fit man jiving twice a week."

On social media he said that there was a "lot of interest" in the Belfast event "not just from the jiveaholics over the country, but also total country virgins".

Aware that urban dwellers may need a jiving lesson or two to bring them up to the standard of their rural counterparts, he said that a jiving masterclass will be on offer before the evening kicks off.

"There is nothing in Belfast to satisfy the huge demand for country music," he said.

"We know this will be a lot of people's first country gig, so we have organised a jiving masterclass before the dance for 30-40 minutes by Matthew Sloan of JiveNI".

Doors will open at 9pm, with tickets costing £12.
