A DUP election leaflet has given the incorrect date for the most recent Assembly vote.

The leaflet has been sent to voters in North Belfast ahead of the Westminster election on June 8.

The Ulster Unionists announced at the weekend that they would not contest the constituency, where the DUP's deputy leader Nigel Dodds is the sitting MP.

The leaflet calls on supporters to "unite for the Union", describing the snap election as a "straight fight between unionism and Sinn Féin".

It states: "Following May's Assembly election result every effort will be made by Sinn Féin to divide us ahead of polling day."

While an Assembly election was held in May last year, the most recent poll took place on March 2.

In the reduced 90 seat Assembly elected two months ago, the total number of DUP MLAs fell from 38 last year to 28.
