AN elderly woman was confronted by a female burglar last night as two homes were robbed in east Belfast.

Detectives are appealing for witnesses following the incidents in the Willowfield area.

According to a police spokesman, sometime between 8pm and 1am (Friday, September 16) entry was forced to a house in the Earl Haig Park area. The elderly female occupant, who was asleep in bed, was wakened by the sound of an intruder at her bedroom door.

The intruder, who is described and being a female with long dark hair, made off empty handed after realising the lady was at home.

It was then reported that sometime between 7.30pm and 10.45pm entry was forced to a second house in Haddington Gardens. A number of items of jewellery were stolen during the incident.

Detectives are investigating a possible link between the two incidents and Detective Sergeant Keith Wilson is appealing for anyone who witnessed the burglaries or anyone who has any information about that can assist with the investigation to contact detectives at Musgrave Police Station on 101, quoting reference numbers 130 and 168 of 17/09/16.

Or if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details, they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111.
