The managing director of a firm of solicitors has had his practising certificate suspended.

The Law Society last night confirmed that it had taken control of the practice of Andrew Walker.

The firm, which lists family, commercial dispute resolution, property and corporate law among its areas of expertise, has offices in Portadown and Belfast.

Mr Walker set up the Portadown business in May 2007, and has overseen the firm's development.

Notice of his suspension appeared in the Belfast Gazette.

"The practising certificate for the time being in force, of Andrew W J Walker, whose last practice address is at Andrew Walker & Co. Limited, 6 Bridge Street, Portadown, County Armagh BT62 1JD, has been suspended. Take further note that this may be the subject of an Appeal by Andrew W J Walker.

"The society has now taken control of Mr Walker's practice. It continues under our supervision."

Existing clients have been told they should continue to contact the relevant practice office as required.
