A DUBLIN company which issues commemorative coins and medals to mark the centenary of the Easter Rising has said it will "look into resolving" a situation which means only customers based in the Republic can place an order.

The Dublin Mint Office has been criticised by Sinn Féin's Niall O'Donnghaile, who was recently elected to Seanad Éireann.

On its website, Dublin Mint offers a number of commemorative coins and medals on the Easter Rising, including a copy of the Proclamation "layered in 24 carat gold" and costing €39.

However, when attempts are made to order online, customers can only choose delivery to an address in the Republic.

The former Belfast Mayor described the discrepancy for customers attempting to obtain a free limited edition Patrick Pearse medal as "an affront" to the legacy of the 1916 leader.

The commemorative medal depicts Pearse alongide the Sword of Light, which was the name of the newspaper he edited on behalf of the Gaelic League and the reverse features the words "Sworn to be free" in both Irish and English.

Mr O'Donnghaile tweeted: "A fundamental contradiction and affront to legacy of Pearse that @dublinmint only make this available in 26 counties....Pearse and the lads fought for and declared a 32 County Republic. Worth remembering in future."

Dublin Mint replied: " Our system is unable to process orders from customers of NI at present....however we are looking into resolving this."
