A CAR has appeared in the middle of a bonfire collection site in Larne.

The silver Ford Focus was abandoned among wood and rubble left at Cairngorm Drive in the Craigyhill estate.

Despite a sign saying "Wood only, no rubbish", someone has dumped the vehicle at the collection site.

UUP councillor Andrew Wilson described the presence of a car as "utterly ridiculous".

"It is not the fault of the bonfire builders who have put up signs saying wood only," he said.

"This tends to happen. You have totally irresponsible people who use these locations to dump things.

"This is obviously a fairly extreme example of this and needs to be removed as soon as possible.

"Nobody wants to see this repeated in the weeks and months to come."

DUP councillor Gregg McKeen also said it was "very concerning" and "not something we would want to see".

A PSNI spokesman said it had not received any reports about the car in connection with crime.
