A MAN was treated in hospital after a gang beat him with baseball bats and bars in Larne.

The 25-year-old victim was assaulted by a group of masked man at a house in the Co Antrim town in the early hours of Saturday.

Police said the gang entered the house in Hampton Court at around 1.35am.

They said a number of other people were in the property at the time but were not hurt.

The man was left with fractures to his arm and leg was recovering in hospital on Sunday night.

Alliance Assembly candidate Stewart Dickson said he was "shocked by this incident and its brutality".

"People do not want to see this sort of violence on our streets. There is never any justification for carrying out this sort of crime and those responsible clearly have no regard for the wellbeing of others.

"If anyone has information on this incident, I would urge them to contact police immediately."

PSNI chief inspector Stephen McCauley said anyone with information should contact detectives in Reactive and Organised Crime on the non-emergency number 101, or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 anonymously.
