HIS sudden hair growth was the talk of the recent Ballon D'or gala and now host James Nesbitt has revealed the secret behind his fuller hairline.

The Co Antrim actor (51) has admitted he was wearing a toupee when he presented the prestigious awards ceremony, which saw Barcelona's Lionel Messi win the world’s best player prize.

Twitter users had been quick to point out Nesbitt's new straight jet black hair with much discussion on his fuller locks.

While the star had previously admitted undergoing operations to enhance his receding hair, the new fuller look had come just a week after Nesbitt had appeared on the Graham Norton Show with a noticeably shorter hair style.

His shaved hair look was also visible just last month when he attended the BBC Sports Personality of the Year awards in Belfast.

But the actor, who once told of his fears of going bald, has revealed he was asked to wear the toupee at the Ballon D'Or by FIFA.

The football body made the request after Nesbitt had his head shaved to play killer dentist Colin Howell in a forthcoming television series.

"I have been very vocal in the past about the hair restoration work I've had done", he told RTÉ's The Late Late Show.

"The last job I had, I was playing Colin Howell and to age for this they had to shave my hair right down to the scalp.

"So FIFA I think thought, 'Jeez you can’t look like that', so we had a piece made and then I got out there and it did look like my hair had grown very quickly.

"But it flew off very quickly and I'm back to my own hair now."
