Sinn Féin mock illness

HOURS after it was revealed health minister Jim Wells suffers from narcolepsy, a rare sleep disorder, Sinn Féin's Martin McGuinness and Gerry Kelly were among those taking to Twitter to poke fun at the DUP MLA. The deputy first minister posted a photo of the north Belfast election hopeful, with whom he went canvassing yesterday, lying asleep on the ground with the caption: "On my way...hope he's out of the scratcher! Wonder has Gerry Kelly got narcolepsy!"

Their party colleague, South Belfast MLA Alex Maskey, tweeted: "Jim Wells has narcolepsy? More like neanderthally!"

Mr Wells is understood to be on medication for the condition, which can produce effects such as excessive sleepiness during the day, falling asleep suddenly and without warning, and a temporary loss of muscle control.
