Samsung has announced a surprise event for October 11, where the company will announce a new device in its Galaxy range.

The company has tweeted about the event, which comes slightly out of the blue with the firm having already announced its traditional two flagship smartphones for the year, the S9 and Note 9.

The teaser promises that, whatever the new device is, it will be “4x fun”, suggesting it may be a new smartphone with four cameras.

No time or location for the event has been confirmed, but it will be broadcast live on the company’s website.

The major players in the smartphone market are increasingly turning to enhancements in their camera systems as a way to out-flank their rivals.

Samsung introduced its Dual Aperture system earlier this year, which automatically adjusts the camera lens to let in varying amounts of light depending on the conditions, reacting in the same way as the human eye does.

The event will continue a busy few weeks for the mobile industry, coming off the back of Apple’s new iPhone announcements earlier this week, and just after Google’s next Pixel unveiling, which is set to take place on October 9.
