EastEnders’ Kellie Bright has said she was “terrified” when she heard her character Linda Carter would battle alcoholism.

The actress, 43, has won praise for her performance as Linda’s drinking problem spirals out of control on the BBC soap.

But she admitted she was worried about the plot at first as she said acting drunk is difficult to do.

She told Radio Times magazine: “I was terrified when they told me! Acting drunk is one of the hardest things to get right.”

Bright continued: “It’s like taking all your clothes off: you feel very vulnerable and exposed.

“You have to be brave and get rid of any thoughts of what you look like or what anyone thinks of you.”

The actress said she watched YouTube videos of real people when they were drunk, to help her perfect the scenes.

“It’s about the stillness between the ranting,” she said.

“You kind of zone out when you’re drunk, so that’s what I wanted to capture.”

Bright joined EastEnders as Linda in 2013.

This week’s Radio Times is out on Tuesday.
