Stacey’s ‘leaky crack’ leaves Bake Off viewers in stitches

Viewers of The Great British Bake Off were greatly amused as one of the contestants uttered one of the most suggestive innuendos in the cooking programme’s history.

Baker Stacey, who has made it into the top six in the competition, was in the middle of working on her showstopper – a hand-raised hot water crust pastry pie with a savoury filling – when she told presenter Noel Fielding of her pastry plight.

She said: “I’m trying to patch up a crack.”

Fielding, laughing, replied: “You’re patching up your crack?”

She said: “I’ve got a big crack… it’s going to leak everywhere. A leaky crack is not a good thing.”

In typical Bake Off style, viewers flooded to Twitter to share their thoughts and giggles over the remark.

One wrote: “I am an absolute child, leaky crack!!”

Another said, using plenty of laughing emojis: “No Stacey, a leaky crack is NOT a good thing!”

“Noel’s joy at the term ‘leaky crack’ means me and him would be great pals,” one remarked, while another said they were “done” over the comment.

However, others thought Stacey was taking things perhaps too far in the comment, and might have been a step too far to be considered an innuendo.

One Bake Off fan said: “Leaky crack isn’t even innuendo. She knew. She knewwwww.”

“Patching up her big leaky crack,” another viewer wrote. “This is no longer innuendo, it’s just pure filth.”

Another said it was not innuendo, but “just rude”.

Elsewhere, viewers were delighted that the programme’s famous “soggy bottom” made a return, although a few were disappointed that it was judge Paul Hollywood that used the term for undercooked pastry, rather than former Bake Off judge Mary Berry.

“A soggy bottom just isn’t the same when Mary Berry isn’t saying it,” one viewer said, while another said: “How dare Paul say the words ‘soggy bottom’ without Mary be his side.”

One incensed viewer added: “How DARE Paul use Saint Mary’s soggy bottom catchphrase! Blasphemy!”
