The Scottish actor, 41, who portrays Raffaello ‘Raf’ di Lucca in the medical drama, was the sixth contestant to join the popular BBC dance competition.

Asked if he was hoping for a Strictly romance he said: “Certainly not, perhaps it’ll be a Strictly blessing. I am not here for that, I am here to learn to dance.”

The Saturdays singer Mollie King echoed McFadden’s sentiments.

King, 30, was previously in a relationship with model David Gandy, who caused a stir with his Dolce & Gabbana advert that featured him posing in white briefs on a small boat at sea.

King said: “I’m single. But no… I’m not looking for love at all.

“I’m not looking for love any more here than I would be on a night out with my girlfriends.

“You never know I guess. You never know. But I’ve got too much to learn to be worrying about men right now. I don’t want to get distracted.”

The popular BBC One series returns on Saturday evening with a launch show that will feature a tribute to Sir Bruce Forsyth.

Other celebrities taking part this year include former JLS singer Aston Merrygold, TV chef and presenter Simon Rimmer, This Morning presenter Ruth Langsford and the Reverend Richard Coles.
