Fans of Peter Kay’s Bafta-winning series Car Share have been left “heartbroken” by the show’s final episode.
Hours before Tuesday night’s season two finale, the comedian revealed it would be the end of the road for the popular sitcom about two supermarket employees who share their daily drive.
Viewers hoping to see Peter’s John Redmond finally woo his carpool companion Kayleigh Kitson (Sian Gibson) were left “gutted” as he failed to reciprocate her advances.

Earlier on Tuesday Peter told BBC Radio Manchester: “There’s not going to be a series three.”As the shocked presenters tried to persuade him otherwise, he continued: “There’s not… there’s not. You’ve got to get out while the going’s good.”
Can't accept Peter Kay saying there won't be a Series 3 or a Christmas Special of #CarShare. You can't leave it like that! ?? @Car_Share_Fan pic.twitter.com/MVgr73WpCn

Last year Peter won two Bafta TV awards for the show, including best scripted comedy and best male performance in a comedy programme, for his role as assistant manager John.
While the pair’s will-they-won’t-they relationship quickly became a favourite aspect for fans after the show’s launch in 2015, Peter recently said he never intended it to turn into such a “subtle romance”.
