While familiar BBC faces Prue Leith and Sandi Toksvig may be unsurprising choices to host the next series of The Great British Bake Off, fans have been left baffled by the addition of comedian Noel Fielding.
Best-known for his surreal comedy series The Mighty Boosh, Noel is more commonly recognised for his outlandish outfits than his baking know-how.
In the lead-up to his debut on the show as it moves to Channel 4, here are some of the outfits we’d like to see him resurrect for the tent.
Kate Bush in red
Noel delighted viewers when he dressed up as singer Kate Bush for his Let’s Dance For Comic Relief rendition of Wuthering Heights. He complemented the bright dress with a flowing chestnut wig, scarf and some dramatic dance moves.
A suit of smiles
Few red carpets have seen the likes of Noel’s outfit at the British Comedy Awards in 2013. He wore an extraordinary oversized jacked patterned with handfuls of chips and grinning mouths over a colourful dress.
Festive drag at the Stella McCartney Christmas switch-on
Everybody loves dressing up for a Christmas party, but Noel and his Mighty Boosh team took it to a new level when they dressed in drag to switch on the Christmas lights at London’s Stella McCartney store. The comedian donned a chic patterned mini dress with a blonde wig and golden boots, with some slightly creepy dripping eye make-up.
Skeleton on the ice
When picking out sensible clothing for an afternoon of ice skating, a skeleton suit, embroidered cape and a peaked top hat may not be your first choice – but it certainly turned heads for Noel as he scooped unsuspecting skaters by the hand at London’s Somerset House.
Eye-popping coats
One signature fashion piece often makes the most effective statement. Gems such as the leopard-print coat Noel wore to a Marmalade Magazine event at London’s Truman Brewery and the fur-trimmed emerald green number he paraded on the red carpet for the Shine A Light movie premiere definitely make that list.
