A cat who stowed away on a ship from China to Canada survived the three-week trip despite having no access to food or water.
The six-year-old moggie was severely emaciated when she reached Vancouver having spent the trip from Shenzhen trapped in 40-foot shipping container, according to the British Columbia Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
“I knew right away when I heard that this cat had spent weeks in a container that she not only had an amazing story but also that she would require extensive care and rehabilitation to recover from her ordeal,” said Alex Schare, SPCA North Cariboo District animal centre services manager.

The cat weighed just 3.3lb (1.5kg) by the time she reached Vancouver, around a third of the weight of an average house cat, and was taken to a vet for immediate medical attention.
She is now being fed small portions of food to prevent potentially fatal refeeding syndrome, and is being kept in quarantine until the necessary vaccinations take effect.
The BC SPCA is now appealing for help to cover the cost of her medical care, which they estimate to be around 2,760 Canadian dollars (£1,580).
